What is Fair Trade

Fair Trade Pricing

At World Centric, we are deeply committed to the issue of social and economic inequality and see fair trade as the minimum required to help support the producers and their families in the developing  world.   We have want to do more than just pay the fair trade price and treat producers as partners and in the past have given 10% of our total sales revenues from fairly traded products to the producers to use as needed for social development projects within their communities.  We believe no "business" has come close to this kind of revenue sharing arrangement.

2006 Changes

However, for 2006 we are stopping our revenue sharing for fair trade products and using those revenues to support our organization and its activities.  We are currently a volunteer run organization and are finding it difficult to do all what we are doing solely on the back of volunteers.   Our organization is evolving and we are looking at separating the Eco and Fair Trade Store from the non-profit and structuring it as an employee-owned producer cooperative.     The amount of time and effort needed to sustain the "business" part of our organization has increased and we need to evolve it to an appropriate structure to be able to keep it going.   Our mission and goals remain the same, regardless of the legal structure of the Fair Trade & Eco Store with all of our profits going towards supporting our educational and organizational activities.

We are way behind on our accounting for 2005 and hope to post the revenue sharing portion soon here on the website.
