The Power of Love Foundation’s (POL) Project Mosquito Nets program provides long lasting insecticide treated bed nets to women and children vulnerable to malaria in Zambia.  In Africa, over 700,000 children die needlessly ever year from malaria, an easily preventable disease.  In fact, more children die from malaria than any other disease in the world. In addition, many more children contract malaria and suffer from its effects over their entire lifetimes. However, we can prevent malaria by providing nets and education. Simply sleeping under a net can keep a person malaria free. In the U.S., malaria has been completely eradicated and it is possible to eradicate it worldwide.

Families waiting at the Matero Community Center for distribution to begin

World Centric’s donation provided nets to 1000 families in the Matero Township in Lusaka, Zambia. The Matero Township is densely populated and most of areas are water logged and have sewer ponds.  Most of the beneficiaries were children who are HIV positive, children under the age of five years, pregnant women, women who are breast feeding, and adults who are infected with TB. These sections of the population are most vulnerable to malaria as their immune systems are compromised.  As a result of this distribution of nets, and proper use by beneficiaries we expect to see a marked reduction in the incidence of malaria and an increase in school attendance due to improved health.

World Centric recently moved our headquarters 70 miles up the road from Palo Alto to the town of Petaluma, in the heart of Sonoma County, California.

With its industrial history and active sustainability community, Petaluma is the perfect place for us to expand our new product development activities and explore U.S.-based manufacturing.
